Nadiem Ready to Proceed with Chromebook Case Hearing After 16 Days of Hospitalisation
Former Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology Nadiem Anwar Makarim is prepared to undergo the continuation of the trial in the alleged corruption case concerning the procurement of Chromebook laptops and Chrome Device Management (CDM). Nadiem was hospitalised to undergo his fourth surgery before today’s hearing.
“How is Mr Nadiem’s health condition today?” asked the chief judge Purwanto S Abdullah at the Central Jakarta Corruption Court on Monday (30/3/2026).
“Thank you, Your Honour. First, on this auspicious occasion of Eid al-Fitr, I offer apologies for any shortcomings. Today, I am ready to face the trial; however, about six days ago, I underwent my fourth surgical procedure. It turned out there was significant regression, requiring me to start over from the beginning, so there is still one more surgical procedure that must be performed. The handling of it may be reported in the medical summary, Your Honour,” replied Nadiem.
Nadiem was hospitalised from Saturday (14/3) to Sunday (29/3). However, Nadiem stated that he is ready to proceed with the trial today.
“Were you hospitalised at that time or what was the situation?” asked the judge.
“I was hospitalised, Your Honour,” replied Nadiem.
Nadiem was hospitalised during Eid al-Fitr 1447 H. For information, today’s trial agenda for Nadiem involves the examination of experts from the public prosecutors (JPU).
In this case, Nadiem is charged with corruption related to the procurement of Chromebook laptops while serving as Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology. The project is said to have caused a state loss of Rp 2.1 trillion.
Nadiem has filed an exception. The judge rejected the exception and requested that the trial proceed to the proof stage.
