Nadiem Prays for Ibam Facing Verdict in Chromebook Case Tomorrow
Former Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology Nadiem Makarim is praying for former consultant to the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology, Ibrahim Arief (Ibam), who will undergo a verdict hearing tomorrow. Ibam has been demanded 15 years in prison in the alleged corruption case of Chromebook laptop procurement.
“Ibam’s decision is tomorrow, we and the family are also praying for him. A young talent of the nation with extraordinary talents, who did not commit any wrongdoing, did not receive any fund flows, always objective and critical towards all technical policies, and has no authority whatsoever, and his decision is tomorrow,” said Nadiem during the break of his examination hearing as a defendant at the Central Jakarta Corruption Court, Monday (11/5/2026).
Nadiem hopes Ibam receives the best decision. He hopes the judges make a decision based on their conscience.
“So I want to convey to Ibam and the family our prayers, and I also hope that young people can monitor tomorrow’s decision. May the panel be able to find their conscience, may the panel tomorrow can decide the best for Ibam and the family,” he stated.
It is known that the verdict hearing for the alleged corruption case of Chromebook laptop and Chrome Device Management (CDM) procurement with defendant Ibrahim Arief alias Ibam will be held tomorrow. Ibam was a consultant at the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology during the Chromebook procurement.
“The panel of judges needs time to compile this decision and postpones the reading of the verdict for two weeks, yes, on 12 May 2026,” said the chief judge Purwanto S Abdullah at the Central Jakarta Corruption Court, Tuesday (28/4).
In the hearing held on Thursday (16/4), Ibam was demanded 15 years in prison, a fine of Rp 1 billion subsidiary 190 days imprisonment. The prosecutor also demanded Ibam pay replacement money of Rp 16.92 billion subsidiary 7 years and 6 months imprisonment.
