Nadiem Makarim Verdict Hearing Scheduled for 30 June

Former Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology Nadiem Makarim has submitted his duplik (defence plea) in the alleged corruption case concerning the procurement of Chromebooks and Chrome Device Management. The panel of judges will now deliberate ahead of delivering its verdict.

“The panel of judges will now deliberate. We had intended to read the verdict two days from now, on Thursday. However, due to my health being somewhat compromised today, we require additional time to prepare. We will proceed on Tuesday, 30 June 2026,” stated presiding judge Purwanto S Abdullah at the Jakarta Corruption Court on Tuesday (23/6/2026).

The judge ordered Nadiem to attend the verdict hearing on Tuesday (30 June). Nadiem is currently under house arrest in connection with this case. “The defendant is ordered to appear at the scheduled hearing on Tuesday, 30 June 2026. The session is concluded and closed,” the judge declared.

Prosecutors have previously demanded a sentence of 18 years’ imprisonment, a fine of Rp 1 billion, subsidiary to 190 days of confinement. Additionally, the prosecution demanded Nadiem pay restitution amounting to Rp 809,596,125,000 (809 billion) and Rp 4,871,469,603,758 (4.8 trillion), totalling Rp 5,681,066,728,758, subsidiary to 9 years’ imprisonment.

“We demand that the panel of judges declare the defendant Nadiem Anwar Makarim legally and convincingly proven guilty of committing a criminal act of corruption jointly,” stated prosecutor Roy Riady during the reading of the sentencing demands at the Jakarta Corruption Court on Wednesday (13/5). The prosecutors believe Nadiem violated Article 603 in conjunction with Article 18 of the Corruption Eradication Law, in conjunction with Article 20 letter c of Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code.
