REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – Former Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology, Nadiem Anwar Makarim, has officially been under house arrest in the alleged corruption case concerning the digitalisation programme involving the procurement of Chromebook laptops and Chrome Device Management (CDM) within the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology from 2019 to 2022, since Monday (11/5/2026) night. The detention is counted from 12 May 2026. “Last night, the public prosecutors’ team (JPU) implemented the decision of the panel of judges, namely that Mr NM (Nadiem Makarim) was transferred to house arrest, and it was carried out by us last night,” said the Head of the Legal Information Centre (Kapuspenkum) of the Attorney General’s Office, Anang Supriatna, in Jakarta on Tuesday (13/5/2026). Anang explained that for the supervision process, they are cooperating with police apparatus. “He cannot leave the house without permission from the panel of judges and the prosecutors. There must be permission,” he stated. In addition, Nadiem has been fitted with a detector bracelet, which is part of the standard operational procedure for house arrest. “The important thing is that when there is a detainee who is under house arrest or similar, they are usually fitted with a bracelet,” he said.
