Nadiem Anwar Makarim has been sentenced to 10 years in prison and fined Rp 1 billion by a panel of judges at the Corruption Court. The verdict was read at the Central Jakarta District Court on Tuesday (30/6/2026).

The former Minister of Education, Culture, Research and Technology was found guilty of committing corruption in the procurement of Chromebook laptops and Chrome Device Management (CDM) for the 2020-2022 fiscal years.

"Sentencing the defendant to 10 years in prison and a fine of Rp 1 billion," said chief judge Purwanto S. Abdullah.

The judge stated that the primary charge from the prosecutors was not proven. However, Nadiem was found guilty on the subsidiary charge of violating Article 604 in conjunction with Article 18 of the Corruption Eradication Law, in conjunction with Article 20 letter c of Law No. 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code.

Nadiem was also given an additional sentence requiring him to pay restitution of Rp 809.5 billion. If the restitution is not paid, it will be replaced with an additional 5 years in prison.

One member of the panel of judges, Andi Saputra, expressed a dissenting opinion. He assessed that the prosecutor’s charges against Nadiem were not proven and believed Nadiem should have been acquitted of all charges in the Chromebook case.

The Public Prosecutor from the Attorney General’s Office had previously demanded that Nadiem be sentenced to 18 years in prison and a fine of Rp 1 billion, subsidiary to 190 days in prison. Nadiem was also demanded to pay restitution of Rp 809,597,125,000 and Rp 4,871,469,603,758.
