Nadiem Makarim Reportedly Recovering After Surgery
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Nadiem Makarim’s lawyer, Dody Abdulkadir, revealed that his client’s condition is improving after undergoing surgery following the sentencing hearing in the alleged corruption case involving the procurement of Chromebook-based laptops.
“His condition is gradually improving,” said Dody, when contacted by Kompas.com, on Friday (15 May 2026).
However, Dody has not yet been able to confirm when Nadiem will be allowed to leave the hospital.
“We’ll wait for the doctor,” he said.
“I will undergo surgery tonight. I am sad, I am disappointed, my family is very upset by (the charges),” said Nadiem, tearfully after the sentencing hearing.
Nadiem admitted that it was difficult to describe his feelings about the legal process he is undergoing.
He said that his health condition required him to undergo surgery immediately.
“But, I have to undergo surgery tonight, because if not, it will have an increasingly severe impact on me,” he said.
The panel of judges set the date for the defence hearing, or plea, for Nadiem Makarim, to be held on 2 June 2026.
“So, to submit the defence, there will probably be a defence from the defendant and a defence from the lawyer. That is in accordance with the direction of the honourable panel yesterday, which is 2 June,” said Purwanto, during the trial, on Wednesday (13 June 2026).
The panel of judges gave the defendant’s side about three weeks to prepare the defence.
In addition, this time is also expected to be used for Nadiem’s recovery after the medical procedure, which took place on Wednesday (13 June 2026).
“As stated by the medical team, the recovery period after the procedure will be approximately three to six weeks,” said Purwanto.
“So, the panel hopes that this time can be used more optimally for recovery,” he said.
In the trial, the judge also ensured that the defence would not only be submitted by the legal counsel, but also directly by the defendant.
