Nadiem Makarim Prepared to Face Prosecution in Chromebook Case Despite Upcoming Surgery
Jakarta - Former Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology Nadiem Makarim has stated that he is prepared to face the prosecution hearing in the corruption case regarding the procurement of Chromebook-based laptops, on Wednesday (13/5/2026). Nadiem said that although he must undergo surgery for medical reasons that evening, he remains ready to attend the prosecution hearing at the Jakarta Corruption Court in the afternoon. “I am prepared to face the prosecution hearing today, even though I will go straight to surgery at the hospital tonight. So, whatever happens today, I will face it,” Nadiem said ahead of the hearing on Wednesday afternoon. “I am just preparing myself mentally. I do not know what more I can prove; all the trial facts are already very clear,” he added. The Gojek founder also wants to see whether the prosecutors’ demands are truly based on the trial facts. “Today, I will just listen to the Prosecutor’s Office’s version, and whether the trial facts form the basis of the demands, or if they are completely ignored and disregarded. We will see the outcome later,” Nadiem said. He admitted that he is only permitted to be at home and the hospital for treatment. “Only allowed at home. Cannot go anywhere, except for the hearing or hospital treatment,” he said. Nadiem also showed the media the detector device attached to his ankle. “Yes, this cannot be removed,” he stated. They coordinated in wearing white clothing and gave encouragement to Nadiem as he walked to the courtroom. Nadiem claimed to be ready to face the prosecution agenda despite still being in the health recovery period after undergoing surgery.
