JAKARTA - The hearing for reading the prosecution’s demands in the alleged Chromebook corruption case, which implicates Nadiem Anwar Makarim as the defendant, will be held at the Corruption Court of the Central Jakarta District Court on Wednesday, 13 May 2026.

Presiding Judge Purwanto Abdullah stated that the proof stage of the case has concluded, allowing the public prosecutor to present the demands.

“At the prosecutor’s request, please allow the reading of the demands on Wednesday, 13 May 2026,” said the Presiding Judge during the closing of the defendant examination session at the Corruption Court of the Central Jakarta District Court on Monday evening, 11 May 2026.

Although his detention status has changed, several conditions have been imposed on Nadiem, with emphasis that violating them will return him to state detention (rutan).

The Presiding Judge emphasised that no other factors influenced the change in Nadiem’s detention status besides his health condition.

In the alleged corruption case of the education digitalisation programme involving the procurement of Chromebook laptops and Chrome Device Management (CDM) within the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology from 2019 to 2022, Nadiem is charged with corruption causing state financial losses of Rp2.18 trillion.

Nadiem’s actions are alleged to have been committed jointly with three other defendants in separate trials, namely Ibrahim Arief alias Ibam, Mulyatsyah, and Sri Wahyuningsih, as well as Jurist Tan, who remains at large.

In detail, the state losses include Rp1.56 trillion related to the education digitalisation programme at the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology, and US$44.05 million or equivalent to Rp621.39 billion due to the procurement of unnecessary and unbeneficial CDM for the education digitalisation programme.

Through these actions, Nadiem is suspected of receiving Rp809.59 billion from PT Aplikasi Karya Anak Bangsa (PT AKAB) via PT Gojek Indonesia.

This can be seen from Nadiem’s wealth recorded in the State Organiser’s Wealth Report (LHKPN) for 2022, which includes asset gains in the form of securities worth Rp5.59 trillion.

For his actions, the former Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology faces penalties under Article 2 paragraph (1) or Article 3 in conjunction with Article 18 of Law No. 31 of 1999 on the Eradication of Criminal Acts of Corruption as amended and supplemented by Law No. 20 of 2001 jo. Article 55 paragraph (1) first of the Criminal Code.
