Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology for the 2019-2024 period, Nadiem Anwar Makarim, admitted that he does not regret having joined the government, even though he is facing a criminal demand in the alleged Chromebook corruption case.

He stated that working with the aim of earning money can be done for a lifetime. Whereas helping the nation’s next generation to become better is only a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

“So I could not possibly refuse the position or that trust when it was offered. Even if I fail, the risk of failure, the risk of going to prison, I will definitely take it because Indonesia’s future is more important than all these risks,” said Nadiem when met after the reading of the prosecutor’s demand letter at the Corruption Court at the Central Jakarta District Court, on Wednesday.

Nevertheless, he admitted to being disappointed, heartbroken, and devastated by the demand filed against him, after all his service to the state.

However, he said, that does not mean he does not love Indonesia. According to him, a person can feel heartbroken if they truly love something.
