Nadiem Claims BPKP Auditor's Testimony Proves State Loss Calculation in Case Was Fabricated
Jakarta - Former Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology Nadiem Makarim believes that the testimony of an auditor from the Financial and Development Supervisory Agency (BPKP) has proven that the state financial loss figure in the Chromebook procurement case was fabricated. “Today, it has been absolutely proven that the calculation of the state financial loss was fabricated, resulting in a loss,” Nadiem stated during a break in the trial at the Jakarta Corruption Court on Monday (11/4/2026). Nadiem highlighted the BPKP auditor’s testimony, which claimed a state loss of Rp 1.5 trillion. “The BPKP witness openly admitted that they did not compare with market prices, whereas they used their own margin assumptions,” Nadiem said. According to him, this calculation does not reflect real and certain figures. “Because if compared with market prices, it would be proven that there was budget savings; the Chromebooks were purchased below the average market price for the same specifications,” he added. Dedy explained that in 2020, the state loss from the Chromebook-based laptop procurement amounted to Rp 127.9 billion. “For 2021, the loss was Rp 544.5 billion. Then in 2022, the loss was Rp 895.3 billion,” Dedy clarified. Dedy Nurmawan stated that the fair price for one unit of Chromebook laptop is Rp 3.67 million. This figure was obtained by BPKP after calculating prices submitted by 11 Chromebook manufacturers, 5 distributors, and determining what is considered a reasonable profit. “Then there is the distributor margin; we took the average from five major distributors that also distribute Chromebook laptops,” Dedy said. Dedy added that BPKP had also calculated profits for other parties at 15 percent. In this case, former Minister of Education Nadiem Makarim, along with three other defendants, is alleged to have caused state financial losses amounting to Rp 2.1 trillion.
