Jakarta – Former Minister of Education, Culture, Research and Technology Nadiem Makarim has been hospitalised following intensive examination during court sessions in recent days. As a result, the expert witness hearing in the alleged corruption case regarding Chromebook laptop procurement has been postponed.

“Information from today indicates that the defendant is undergoing inpatient treatment,” stated one of the Public Prosecutors at the Corruption Court hearing in Jakarta on Thursday, 12 March 2026.

During the hearing, Nadiem’s legal team informed the court that Nadiem requires follow-up surgery around 17 March 2026. However, before the operation, Nadiem will first undergo hospital examination on 14 March 2026. His legal team noted that following the operation, Nadiem would need approximately 14 days for recovery.

After hearing submissions from the Public Prosecutors and the defendant’s team, Presiding Judge Purwanto S Abdullah decided to postpone the hearing to 30 March 2026.

“Considering that the defendant is unwell and next week is quite a long holiday, we are postponing to Monday, 30 March. That is, taking into account the defendant’s condition,” said Judge Purwanto before closing the session.

Nadiem’s examination commenced at approximately 10:30 am and concluded at approximately 22:19 pm, meaning he was examined for approximately 12 hours. Previously, Nadiem disclosed that his health had deteriorated and required intensive care.

He made this statement during the hearing on Thursday, 5 March 2026. “Your Honour, I am prepared to face today’s hearing. However, based on yesterday’s MRI results, the report is not positive; there has been deterioration in my recovery,” Nadiem stated at the Corruption Court hearing in Jakarta.

Nadiem revealed that he has experienced reinfection at the site of a previous operation within his body.
