Jakarta (ANTARA) - Member of the Democratic Party’s Supreme Assembly, Major General (Ret.) Nachrowi Ramli, has urged all Democratic Party cadres to begin preparing for the 2029 General Election by drawing up plans from 2026, before entering the consolidation phase in 2028.

“We remind Democratic Party cadres to begin preparations for the 2029 General Election,” he said while attending the People’s Competition event held to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Democratic Party as well as the 81st anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia’s independence in Jakarta on Sunday.

He said that 2027 would be a preparation period, followed by consolidation maturing in 2028, before entering the legislative and presidential election battles of 2029.

He asked cadres in Jakarta and across all regions to begin drawing up plans from now.

“Do not start too late and make thorough plans from now,” he said.

“Time keeps moving, and do not be left behind by time, otherwise we will be caught off guard,” he stressed.

He also advised that preparations for the political contest be undertaken seriously and not wait until the momentum draws closer.

“Preparation and then the battle itself must not be late either,” he said.

He explained that the People’s Competition for the 25th anniversary was held simultaneously at around 430 locations across Indonesia.

In addition, the Democratic Party also gathered aspirations from around 240 Branch Leadership Councils (DPC) regarding the public’s hopes for the party going forward.

“We invited the public and asked what their hopes are for the future,” he said.

Members of the public and Democratic Party cadres took part in around 40 types of competitions, with the various competitions forming part of the Democratic Party anniversary and Indonesian independence anniversary celebrations.

“The philosophy carried in this activity is ‘United to Advance Indonesia’,” he said.

He said this spirit reflects the Democratic Party’s determination to unite with various parties for the sake of the nation’s progress.

“So the Democratic Party unites with other people, with other parties, to advance Indonesia,” he said.

According to him, the People’s Competition was held as part of the Democratic Party’s efforts to get closer to the public.

Through this activity, party cadres can meet directly with the public while absorbing various aspirations.

“We hope to absorb the public’s aspirations,” he said.

The former head of Indonesia’s State Cryptography Agency assessed that the Democratic Party has reached a fairly mature age as it enters its 25th year.

The quarter-century journey has been marked by various obstacles, challenges, as well as successes.

He said this experience must be used as a mirror and evaluation material so that the Democratic Party can once again become champions in the upcoming political contest.

“The Democratic Party at 25 is quite mature. Therefore, since its birth there have been many obstacles, many challenges, and many successes as well. Therefore, we will use this as a mirror so that we can once again become champions in the contest,” he said.

He stressed that the Democratic Party’s political struggle must ultimately lead to service to the public and the realisation of a sovereign, just and prosperous Indonesia.

“And once again we want to devote ourselves to the public so that a sovereign, just and prosperous Indonesia can be achieved,” he said.
