Nabire regent ready to face graft probe
NABIRE, Papua: Nabire Regent A.P. Youw said on Monday that he had
not received a summons from the police, although President Susilo
Bambang Yudhoyono had given the green light for prosecutors to
try graft suspects.
Youw said he was ready to face the questioning as he was
convinced that he was not guilty.
Separately, Sr. Comr. M. Situmorang, the chief of the Papua
Police detective unit, said that his office had just received the
letter from the President and the police would send a summons for
Youw to report to the police for questioning.
The graft allegation centers on the construction of Rp 2.5
billion shop houses in Nabire and allegations that the regent
marked up construction costs. -- JP
