Nabire (ANTARA) - The Nabire Regency Government has halted salary payments to 161 civil servants (ASN) who lack discipline, as part of enforcing discipline and improving bureaucratic governance.

Nabire Regency Secretary Yulianus Pasang in Nabire on Saturday stated that the salary suspension was implemented in April 2024 for various reasons, ranging from ASN who have not reported to work for years to employees who have transferred to other regions.

“There are ASN who have not come to work for four to six years, and there are those who have moved to other provinces or regencies, so we have stopped their salaries,” he said.

He explained that the policy complies with guidance from the Financial Audit Board (BPK) regarding the organisation of personnel administration and local financial management.

Additionally, practices were found where ASN were replaced by family members after the employee in question passed away. According to him, this is not permitted under personnel regulations, so salary payments must be stopped.

“The family culture in Papua is indeed strong, but in the bureaucracy, this cannot be done,” he said.

The Nabire Regency Government is also requiring ASN who have been inactive for a long time to return salaries they have received after they are officially dismissed.

He emphasised that this firm step aims to encourage ASN discipline and ensure that financial rights are only given to employees who truly carry out their duties.

“Every ASN is obliged to fulfil their obligations. Only if they work well can they demand their rights,” he said.

The Nabire Regency Government hopes that this organisation will increase ASN professionalism and improve the quality of public services in the area.
