The Nabire Military Command (Kodim 1705/Nabire) is assisting in the construction of seven Red and White Village Cooperatives (KDMP) in several villages within the Nabire Regency, Central Papua, which are targeted for gradual completion by August 2026.

Commander of Kodim 1705/Nabire, Lieutenant Colonel Arh Dwi Palwanto, stated in Nabire on Saturday that the seven cooperatives currently under construction are located in the villages of SP1 Bumi Raya, SP02 Kalisemen, Wanggar, Wanggar Makmur, Wiraska, and two units in Lagari Village. “Currently, there are seven KDMPs in the process of construction. Progress varies for each, but the highest is at SP2 Kalisemen, which has reached approximately 90 per cent,” he said.

He explained that the construction of the KDMP is a central government programme, the implementation of which is supported by all Military District Commands (Kodim) across Indonesia to bolster community economic strength at the village and hamlet levels. According to Palwanto, the TNI (Indonesian National Armed Forces) is handling the physical construction, while the facilities will later be managed by the local community. “We have been instructed to assist with the construction. Eventually, the community will enjoy and utilise the existence of these cooperatives,” he added.

The construction process is being monitored by the local community, village heads, and Agrinas to ensure the work adheres to established regulations. He noted that not all cooperatives are eligible for construction assistance immediately, as several requirements must be met, including a minimum land area of 600 square metres (20 x 30 metres). Additionally, the availability of supporting infrastructure, such as electricity, is a prerequisite for determining construction sites. “For example, in Topo, we very much want to build there. However, electricity is not yet available 24 hours a day, so it does not yet meet the set requirements,” he said.

Palwanto acknowledged that several other cooperatives have applied for construction assistance, but the central government has currently limited construction in Nabire to seven locations until August 2026. After August, the central government will conduct an evaluation and consider the possibility of adding more KDMP construction sites in the Nabire region. “There may be adjustments or changes in specifications from the central government later, such as regarding the land area not necessarily needing to be 600 square metres,” he noted. He expressed hope that the construction of these seven KDMPs would be completed promptly to serve as economic activity hubs for village communities and support the improvement of resident welfare in Nabire Regency.
