N. Sumatra, Malaysia to build seaport

MEDAN: The North Sumatra provincial government and the Labuhan Batu regional government signed on Tuesday an agreement with the Malaysian government on the construction of the Tanjung Sarang Elang Seaport in Labuhan Batu.

Governor T. Rizal Nurdin said it was the first bilateral agreement ever signed by the North Sumatra government with a foreign party.

Rizal said the cost of the project would reach 100 million ringgit, and would be fully funded by Malaysian investors.

Construction of the port will take two years to complete. The port will cater to commodities traded along the eastern coast of Sumatra island. -- JP
