N. Sulawesi short of 1,600 teachers
MANADO, North Sulawesi: North Sulawesi lacks 1,600 teaching
staff in hundreds of elementary schools in remote areas in the
province.
Dirk Togas, chief of the local education ministry office, said
many elementary schools in the province were short of teaching
staff because the local administration had financial difficulties
in recruiting new teachers.
"Over the last three years, there has been no recruitment of
teachers. Many elementary schools have only five teachers," he
said.
He warned that the shortage of teachers would have a negative
impact on the quality of education in the province. --Antara
