JAKARTA (JP): The North Jakarta police precinct has the best crime fighting record amongst the capital's five police precincts.
Chief of the North Jakarta police precinct, Lt. Col. Edi Darnadi said his office deserved the accolades given its successful record in handling crime.
Data at City Police Headquarters indicates that in the last four months the North Jakarta precinct managed to resolve 116 of its 176 cases, or 64.8 percent.
The Central Jakarta precinct resolved 58.05 percent of their 360 cases, West Jakarta precinct 52.23 percent of their 358 incidents, South Jakarta precinct 52.59 percent of their 308 cases, and East Jakarta precinct 44.69 percent of their 349 cases.
The data focuses on four main crimes: car and motorcycle theft, theft committed with violence, theft resulting in murder, and physical assault and torture, Antara reported.
Edi said his precinct uses preventative actions, including a religious approach, in conjunction with its field operations.
He believes these preventive actions have minimized the number of crimes committed in North Jakarta.
In January 1995 the precinct recorded eight physical assaults in which the victims suffered serious wounds, four each in February and March and nine in April.
Thefts with violence occurred 23 times in January, 16 times in February, 20 times in March, and 11 times in April. There were 38 thefts of cars and motorcycles in January, 15 in March and 28 in April.
Edi was optimistic that his precinct would be able to further reduce the amount of crime. (29)
