Deputy Chairman of the Central Board of the Indonesian Real Estate Association (Waketum DPP REI) Bambang Ekajaya explains that there are two main factors making “tusuk sate” houses frequently avoided by buyers. 1. Myth or Belief Factor First, the myth or belief factor, including feng shui perspectives. Some people believe that a house positioned directly at the end of a street can bring negative energy to its occupants. “These two aspects underpin why”tusuk sate” houses are often avoided: myths or beliefs and rational factors,” Bambang told Kompas.com on Friday (10/4/2026). 2. Rational Perspective Meanwhile, from a rational viewpoint, a house facing directly onto the street is seen as causing discomfort. Risks from vehicles driving straight towards the house, exposure to vehicle headlights, and stronger wind flows are among the considerations. “Logically, this position can cause discomfort, for example, in terms of security because vehicles could crash into the house, as well as front-facing headlight glare and greater wind flow,” he explained. Nevertheless, Bambang assesses that “tusuk sate” houses do not always carry negative value in every aspect. In certain contexts, this position can actually be an advantage, particularly for business or commercial needs. He explains that “tusuk sate” houses have high visibility because they are easily seen from the road, making them strategic for commercial activities such as offices or businesses.
