JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com — The deaths of four project workers at the construction site for the TB Simatupang area development in Jagakarsa, South Jakarta, on Friday (3/4/2026) remain a mystery. The cause of the incident is still unknown. Police suspect the victims were exposed to hazardous gas inside the water reservoir. However, investigations are ongoing. Head of Public Relations for Metro Jaya Police, Senior Commissioner Budi Hermanto, stated that the incident occurred while the workers were cleaning the water reservoir. In addition to the four fatalities, three other workers experienced shortness of breath. The three surviving workers, U (41), AJ (37), and S (63), are currently receiving treatment at a hospital. Meanwhile, the four victims, YN (32), MW (62), TS (63), and MF (19), were pronounced dead. Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit at South Jakarta Police Resort, AKBP Mohamad Iskandarsyah, said the cause of death is still awaiting autopsy results. A day after the incident, the atmosphere at the project site changed drastically. No activities were visible. A base motorcycle taxi driver, Ipan (45), said the location became quiet immediately after the incident. “Since yesterday’s incident, it’s been quiet right away. Usually, there are workers coming and going, but now there’s none at all,” he said. The project, which was previously ongoing, now appears closed, with no signs of further activity.
