Mystery Surrounding Death of Yogyakarta Palace Photographer and Family in Tent During Camping Trip

Four family members, including Bagas Amar Hakiki, a student at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) and photographer for Yogyakarta’s Keraton, were found dead in a tent during a camping trip in Temanggung. The victims—Muhammad Ali Munawar (52), Maghfirah (43), Alvino Evan Hakim (16), and Bagas Amar Hakiki (21)—were residents of Panjang Village in Ambarawa District, Semarang Regency.

According to Central Java Police Chief of Public Relations Kombes Artanto, the family arrived at the campsite on Tuesday, 26 May 2026, at 9:05 PM in a white Honda Jazz RS GK 5 with number plate H 1609 PT. They set up their tent at 9:30 PM. The following day, at 9 AM, a staff member delivering breakfast received no response. At 11:30 AM, another staff member attempted to clean the site but again received no reply. At 3:45 PM, a witness opened the tent and discovered all four deceased inside.

Police found no signs of violence, but the victims’ hands were clenched. Initial medical reports indicate poisoning, with symptoms including frothing at the mouth and hypothermia.

Bagas had interned at the Keraton Jogja’s Tandha Yekti department in 2024 before becoming a freelance photographer. Nyi RW. Kartiutami Guritno of the Keraton Jogja described him as dependable and kind, expressing profound loss for the team.
