Mystery Remains: Police Invite Owner to Collect Abandoned BMW at South Jakarta Police Station

The owner of an abandoned BMW sedan found parked on the Antasari Non-Toll Elevated Road (JLNT) in South Jakarta remains a mystery. Police have invited the owner to come and collect it from the South Jakarta Metro Police headquarters.

“If anyone wants to come and retrieve it from the police station, they are welcome to do so,” said South Jakarta Traffic Police Chief Commissioner Mujiyanto when contacted on Monday (13 July).

When the vehicle was discovered, it had no registration plates. It was found locked and covered in dust.

“When it was towed, there were no plates. The chassis and engine numbers can be checked later if no one comes to claim it,” he said.

Chronology of the discovery

The green-coloured car was found on Sunday (12 July). The presence of the BMW was reported by a passing motorist, who then alerted the authorities.

“A motorist reported it as an obstruction, then it was reported to the Transportation Agency (Dishub). It was then towed and secured at the police station. The towing was accompanied by police,” said Commissioner Mujiyanto.

The towing process was carried out on Sunday night. It is not yet known precisely how long the BMW had been ‘perched’ on the Antasari elevated road.

“It may have been there one or two days. But I don’t know exactly, because the car was locked, so the tow had to use a wheel dolly from Dishub,” he said.
