Police are continuing to hunt the perpetrator of a brutal robbery that killed a retiree who worked at a port, at his home in the Jatibening area of Bekasi City, West Java.

So far, authorities are still trying to uncover the motive behind the crime. The victim has been identified as Ermanto Usman (65), a retired employee of the Jakarta International Container Terminal (JICT). He was found dead inside his home, while his wife, identified by the initials P (60), was left in a critical condition after suffering serious injuries. Police expressed condolences on the tragedy.

They stressed that police are working hard to identify and capture the perpetrators of the deadly burglary.

“We extend our condolences to the victim’s family; may the perpetrators be arrested soon,” said Budi Hermanto, Head of Public Relations for the Metro Jaya Regional Police, on Thursday, 5 March 2026.

Hermanto explained that the investigation is being handled by the Bekasi City Metro Resort Police with support from the Jatanras and Resmob sub-directorates of the Metro Jaya Regional Police.

“They are currently conducting an investigation into the case,” he said.

He added that the main focus for investigators at this stage is to pursue the offenders while also probing the motives behind the burglary. Police also responded to various rumours circulating among the public about the victim’s background as an active advocate for workers’ rights during his time at the port company.

“Regarding the motive, it is still under investigation. The main focus of the team at the moment is to gather facts, uncover the perpetrators, and make arrests,” he said.

Earlier reports said Ermanto Usman’s family had officially filed for protection with the Witness and Victim Protection Agency (LPSK).

The application was presented in person with the accompaniment of a member of the DPR RI Commission XIII, Rieke Diah Pitaloka, and a representative from the PT Jakarta International Container Terminal (JICT) Workers Union.

LPSK Chair, Brigadier General Pol (Ret) Achmadi, said the agency had received the application. It had also taken initial steps by coordinating with the law enforcement bodies handling the case.

“With regard to a case that occurred in Bekasi a few days ago, essentially LPSK has taken initial steps to coordinate with the unit handling the case and its leadership,” Achmadi told reporters at the LPSK office, on Thursday, 5 March 2026.
