Mystery of a Man and a 'Big Brother' Letter Linked to Baby Found in a Nasi Uduk Cart

The discovery of a baby girl in Pasar Minggu, South Jakarta, remains shrouded in mystery as police continue to search for the infant’s parents. It is not yet clear what the accompanying letter says, and authorities have not confirmed the involvement of a 12-year-old boy who allegedly identified himself as the baby’s older brother. The infant was found in a nasi uduk cart in front of a resident’s house on Jalan Pejaten Raya RT 010 RW 002, Pasar Minggu, South Jakarta, around 17:30 WIB on Tuesday 3 March. The location lies at the corner of a dead-end alley on Jalan Pejaten Raya. The baby was found inside a black shopping bag, along with powdered milk, wet wipes, baby gloves, and a scrap of paper.

‘In the cart, witness Dinda saw a black shopping bag; she then saw a baby girl lying on her side wearing a blue teddy-bear outfit and wrapped in a baby blanket,’ said Pasar Minggu Police Station Chief Kompol Anggiat Sinambela on Wednesday 4 March 2026. The late-afternoon scene grew crowded as residents cared for the infant. The baby was cleaned and her diaper changed before she was taken to a resident’s home. Residents reported the discovery to Pasar Minggu Police Station, with officers now examining the baby’s parents and those who left the infant.

Residents found a handwritten note with the baby. The letter was written by someone named Zidan (12), who claimed to be the baby’s ‘older brother’ and who entrusted the infant to residents for care. He said the baby had been left in the nasi uduk cart because the mother had died in childbirth. It has not yet been confirmed whether the child was truly left by a 12-year-old.

A witness at the scene, Atik (53), briefly saw a grown man carrying a large black handheld bag past her house, which sits next to Marlina’s nasi uduk cart. The houses are located at the end of a dead-end alley. Atik was using her mobile phone with the door open and noticed someone passing by, thinking he might be a courier. She recalls seeing the man around 17:00 WIB, with the discovery of the baby reported at about 17:30 WIB.
