Mystery around Bung Karno's death
Mystery around Bung Karno's death
From Forum Keadilan
Forum Keadilan's June 25, 2000, edition once again explored the mystery surrounding the death of Indonesia's first president, Soekarno, popularly called Bung Karno. This mystery is a historical fact whose truth has been "hidden". As long as history is manipulated and truth based on facts remains unexposed, Bung Karno's demise will for ever remain a mystery.
Bung Karno was an Indonesian citizen vested with the same rights and obligations as Soeharto, Indonesia's second president. Soeharto is currently enjoying his legal rights regarding his alleged involvement in the biggest corruption scandal ever committed in the history of Indonesia. Soeharto's rights are still being honored.
The late Bung Karno was also supposed to enjoy the same legal rights regarding allegations of his involvement in the failed coup allegedly carried out by the Indonesian Communist Party in late 1965. In reality, however, Bung Karno was stripped of this right during the New Order era.
Bung Karno may still be accorded the rights he should have enjoyed in his life time. In this way, he will be objectively placed in his deserved position before the Indonesian people, and besides, the country's history, which has been distorted by certain people in their own interests, may be straightened out and the mastermind behind the mystery exposed.
When Forum Keadilan again carried this report it was evident that there is still a big question mark in the community about how Bung Karno actually passed away. We have heard many rumors about this. What has never been proved is a statement made by Ratna Sari Dewi, one of Bung Karno's wives, that Bung Karno died because of an overdose of sleeping pills. Unfortunately, even Forum Keadilan on this occasion did not give conclusive evidence about this matter. It is hoped that the next time Forum Keadilan decides to carry a similar report, Ratna Sari Dewi's statement about how her husband died may get corroboration.
