Mysterious Woman Evacuated at Parangtritis Beach Flees from SAR Post

A mysterious woman who was evacuated after walking into the sea at Parangtritis Beach, Bantul, has fled from the SAR post. Officials suspect the woman is suffering from a psychological disorder or depression.

“The person concerned left the post without saying goodbye,” said Sektiaji Bagus, SAR Coordinator for the Special Rescue Unit Region III of Parangtritis-Depok Beach, when contacted on Friday (10/7/2026).

Sektiaji stated that the incident occurred yesterday, Thursday (9/7) afternoon. Previously, the woman wearing a hijab had been at the post with SAR officers.

“Yesterday she was asked questions, but her answers were incoherent. When asked for her home address, she answered ‘the south coast,’ which is why we couldn’t send her home yesterday,” he said.

Furthermore, the woman repeatedly tried to return to the sea. Especially upon hearing the sound of an ambulance siren, she would immediately run towards the water.

“Yesterday, when she saw an ambulance passing by, she ran to the sea. Perhaps she has some trauma related to ambulances, or something else, we don’t really know. She was calmed down and willingly brought to the post,” he explained.

Sektiaji suspects the woman is experiencing psychological issues, as she was difficult to communicate with and seemed to ramble when speaking.

“Her behaviour yesterday was like that of a depressed person,” he said.

As previously reported, a joint SAR team at Parangtritis Beach, Bantul, evacuated a woman wearing a hijab who was walking into the middle of the sea. Officers are currently trying to trace the family of the unidentified woman.

M Arif Nugraha, Coordinator of Jogo Segoro for the Parangtritis-Depok region, explained that initially, a woman was seen on the edge of Parangtritis Beach that afternoon. However, she was observed continuing to walk out to sea.

“Officers who noticed the woman walking too far into the sea approached her and persuaded her to return to shore,” Arif said when contacted by reporters on Thursday (9/7/2026).

Eventually, the woman agreed to return to land. Officers then took her to the Parangtritis SAR post.

“The woman then calmed down and was able to communicate. However, according to her statement, her bag was swept away by the waves,” he said.

As a result, officers are still trying to determine the woman’s identity. They are also continuing to communicate with her in the hope that she will provide a contact number.
