Mysterious telephone bill
Mysterious telephone bill
From Kompas
I am a Depok resident and have two fixed telephone lines from
Telkom. I usually pay my bills on time and use my telephones as
efficiently as possible.
Last month, however, there was a big jump in the amount on the
bills. The printout showed that these numbers were used several
times to contact a TV quiz telephone number and the expensive
Japati.
While waiting for my claim to be settled, the telephone
numbers could be used to receive incoming calls only. Besides, I
had to pay a fine on late payment.
Unfortunately, the response to my claim, which came a month
later, was that I still had to pay the Japati charges because the
call was made from my telephone numbers.
I was really disappointed with this response. I have refused
to pay until Telkom can prove beyond any shadow of doubt that I
used my telephone numbers to contact Japati number.
Telkom should realize that there are always hackers that can
penetrate the security wall of, for example, banking services,
and the Internet. Isn't it possible that the same thing has
happened to Telkom?
Once again I refuse to pay the bill even if Telkom decides to
cancel my telephone numbers.
