Mysterious Loud Booms Startle Residents in Bandung

Residents of Greater Bandung were startled by mysterious loud booms during the night from Friday (4/9/2026) until the early hours of Saturday (5/9/2026). The Bandung office of the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) stated that it will soon provide information regarding the source of the noise.

Several residents in WhatsApp groups reported hearing loud thuds of unknown origin. Some even felt their windows vibrating in the early hours of the morning.

“There was a booming sound that caused windows to vibrate in West Bandung,” said one resident, Ilham, as reported on Saturday (5/9/2026).

Meanwhile, a resident named Lingga reported hearing the booms in Padasuka, Cimahi. “It could also be heard in Padasuka,” he said.

In Majalaya, loud thuds were also heard in Majalaya and Cikancung, Majalaya Regency.

“It was heard in Majalaya and Cikancung,” said Bang Ule.

Additionally, the booming sounds were heard in the Sukabumi and Cianjur regions.

The public is left questioning the origin of these loud noises, with many speculating a connection to the recent eruption of Mount Krakatoa.
