The terror of fire at the home of Mutfiana, known as Fia, a resident of Kasuran Mriyan X, Margodadi Village, Seyegan District, Sleman, has finally ceased. According to Fia, the mysterious phenomenon that caused repeated fires has not occurred since Monday. “Three days have been safe, with no fire incidents,” Fia said when met by reporters at the Sleman BPBD office on Wednesday (17/6/2026).

She explained the mysterious fires stopped after her family evacuated all flammable items from the ground floor. Now, only a wooden cupboard, a freezer, and an aquarium remain. “So, you need to know, friends, the fire, alhamdulillah, has not happened again because we have emptied the house,” she said. Fia also clarified that the fires ceased after CCTV cameras were installed. “So, if we still had items like at the beginning before the CCTV was installed, there would be a statement saying, ‘Oh, why hasn’t there been a fire after the CCTV was installed?’ That’s because before the CCTV was installed, we had already relocated all the flammable items,” she stated.

Fia explained that a total of 127 fires occurred since the phenomenon first appeared on Saturday (23/5). Her family is now preparing to move to the second floor of the house, which is considered relatively safe. “We are moving to the upper house, which is indeed safe. The ground floor is temporarily emptied. We are also still parking elsewhere,” she said.

Head of the Sleman BPBD, Bambang Kuntoro, said his agency has handed over the research findings from academics to Fia. “So, Ms Fia came to the BPBD office representing her family to request the research results and observations from the team that previously went into the field to study the phenomenon in Seyegan. The findings are from UGM, UPN, and also BBPTKG,” Bambang told reporters. He added that after the government’s final announcement on Monday (15/6), the two CCTV cameras installed in Fia’s house were removed. The government stated the scientific research was complete and the investigation has been handed over to the police. “All have been removed. There were two at Fia’s house, in the front room and the middle room,” he explained.

Fia supports the police investigation into the repeated fires at her home. “I and my family are fully open to the police investigation stage,” Fia said. She is also willing for her family members to undergo any necessary examination procedures. “If anything is needed regarding this matter, we will certainly make the effort,” she stated. Fia denied allegations that the fires were staged, especially since the burnt items were the result of her and her family’s hard work. “We saved up to buy a spring bed, saved up to buy clothes. How could we be so heartless, and what would the motive be? It’s not easy to get them, it takes a long process, why would we burn them ourselves?” she said. Meanwhile, Fia visited the Sleman BPBD office to request a copy of the research results from the academics. “I haven’t read the results yet. I only read a glimpse through the media yesterday. I haven’t read this in full. So, if I am asked to respond to the results, I cannot yet,” she said.

The research conducted by Gadjah Mada University (UGM) and UPN ‘Veteran’ Yogyakarta regarding the fire phenomenon at the residence of a resident named Mutfiana in Seyegan, Sleman, has been completed. However, the origin of the fire that ‘terrorised’ Fia’s house remains mysterious. The Head of BPBD Sleman, Bambang Kuntoro, explained the conclusion that the emergence of the mysterious fire is not related to natural phenomena. This statement was made after Bambang held a meeting with the UGM team, BPPTKG, UPN, and other relevant agencies at the Sleman Regent’s Office. “In essence, from the research results, the fire phenomenon that appeared in Seyegan has no connection to natural phenomena. Natural phenomena do not cause the fires that appeared in Seyegan,” Bambang told reporters at the Sleman Regent’s Office on Monday (15/6).

The head of the UGM Faculty of Engineering’s Centre for Entropy Damping Studies (PKPE), Prof Alva Edy Tontowi, previously stated his team suspected the fire was related to polyvinyl chloride (PVC) resin. “The source of the fire is not from natural gas seepage from below the surface (floor), there is no thermal anomaly, and no gas was found that can self-ignite naturally at room temperature,” Prof Alva explained on Saturday (13/6). Referring to the Fire Triangle Theory and research results, Alva said his team concluded the electromagnetic field was measured at a safe level, meaning it was not the trigger for the flame. The fire that burned the material in this case is likely associated with the presence of PVC resin, which is flammable when it meets an ignition source. This suspicion arose after PVC resin was found on the burnt material. On Friday (12/6), the team took more samples from fire residue on ceramic and wood/plywood surfaces and analysed them using the FTIR method. “The FTIR analysis results show that the samples contain polyvinyl chloride (PVC), which is not commonly found on ceramic or wood/plywood surfaces,” he explained.

Meanwhile, the geologist team from UPN stated they found no connection between the gas discovered in the Nepen River and the fire case at Mutfiana’s house. “We officially close the research. So, there is absolutely no connection between the gas in the Nepen River and the house that caught fire,” said the Dean of the Faculty of Mineral and Energy Technology (FTME) at UPN ‘Veteran’ Yogyakarta, Prof. Dr. Ir. RM. Basuki Rahmad, when met by reporters at the Sleman Regency Government office on Monday (15/6). Basuki explained his team conducted a series of studies, starting with surface geological observation, from which the team obtained initial clues in the form of rock.
