Mysterious Fire Terror Disappears for Three Days from Seyegan Resident's Home
The mysterious fire phenomenon that burned dozens of items in a resident’s house in Kasuran Mriyan X, Margodadi Village, Seyegan District, Sleman, has not reappeared for the past three days. Homeowner Mutfiana explained the situation, including that the fires stopped after CCTV cameras were installed.
“It has been safe for three days (no fire incidents),” Fia said when met by reporters at the Sleman Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) office on Wednesday (17/6/2026).
She said the fires stopped because her family had evacuated all flammable items from the ground floor. Currently, only a wooden cupboard, a freezer, and an aquarium remain.
“So, you need to know, thank God it hasn’t happened again because we emptied the house,” she said. “If we still had items like at the beginning before the CCTV was installed, there would be a statement saying, ‘Why haven’t there been any fires since the CCTV was put in?’ The answer is because before the CCTV was installed, we had already relocated all the flammable items.”
She said a total of 127 fire incidents occurred since the phenomenon first appeared. Her family is now preparing to move to the second floor of the house, which is considered relatively safe.
“We are moving to the upper floor, which is indeed safe. The ground floor is temporarily emptied. We are also still parking elsewhere,” she explained.
Meanwhile, Sleman BPBD Head Bambang Kuntoro said his agency today handed over research findings from academics to Fia.
“Ms Fia came to the BPBD office representing the family to request the results of the research and observations from the team that investigated the fire phenomenon in Seyegan. The findings are from UGM, UPN, and also BBPTKG,” Bambang told reporters.
Bambang added that following the government’s final announcement on Monday (15/6), the two CCTV cameras installed in Fia’s house have been removed. The government stated that the scientific research is complete and the investigation has now been handed over to the police.
“All have been removed. There were two at Fia’s house, in the front room and the middle room,” he concluded.
