Mysterious fire erupts repeatedly in Sleman homes, sparking mysticism claims
Residents of Mriyan X hamlet in Margomulyo village, Seyegan subdistrict, Sleman regency, have been alarmed by repeated appearances of a mysterious fire burning household items in one resident’s home. Over a 26-hour period, the fire reportedly erupted 11 times at different locations within the house.
The incidents occurred at the home of Hinggil Muftiana. Flames appeared suddenly with no discernible source, igniting flammable items inside the house. Frightened residents temporarily evacuated the property.
“I don’t know where the fire came from. Drops of flame suddenly appeared from various items in the house, despite no smoking or electrical short circuits,” Hinggil told reporters on Sunday (24 May 2026).
Hinggil stated the first fire was detected Saturday (23 May 2026) around midnight, igniting fabric before spreading to door frames. Although initially extinguished, flames reappeared elsewhere and consumed other items.
He added that the chain of fires continued until Sunday afternoon, with one particularly large blaze damaging the house’s plasterboard.
Hinggil expressed confusion over the fire’s origin, noting no sparks or explosions preceded the incidents.
“It just suddenly caught fire,” he said.
