Residents of Gobleg Village, Banjar District, Buleleng, Bali, are unsettled by the appearance of mysterious drones flying over residential areas over the past week. The drones are typically observed flying from late at night until just before dawn.

The Village Head of Gobleg, I Made Suparsa, stated that the drones were previously spotted flying between 10:3asting 22:30 WITA and 02:00–03:00 WITA. However, recently, activity has been noted as early as 20:30 WITA.

“I have monitored it several times; it flies over residents’ houses. In my view, it looks like it is scouting. When people notice it, it flies away quickly,” said Suparsa on Friday (4/9/2026).

According to him, two drones have been seen flying in the Gobleg area. One flies closer to the settlements, while another remains at a distance, appearing to act as an escort.

“When people see it, it flies away. The drone is not alone. There is one escorting from the side, one is close, and another is further away,” he explained.

Suparsa does not yet know the owner or the motive behind the drone flights. However, their appearance has caused anxiety among residents, especially as several cases of fighting chicken thefts have occurred in Gobleg during a similar period. The number of stolen chickens is estimated to reach dozens.

Nevertheless, Suparsa emphasised that there is no concrete evidence linking the drones to the thefts. He noted that the suspicion that houses being monitored by drones subsequently become targets for theft remains purely analytical and unproven.

“The houses being scouted are those that possess valuable assets. But this is just an analysis; I am not making an accusation,” he clarified.

The drone activity has also been observed extending to Munduk and Pedawa Villages in the Banjar District. The issue has been reported to the police, and officers from the local Police Sector (Polsek) have conducted nighttime patrols.

“It has been reported; even last night, members of the Polsek conducted patrols. The Chief of Police is also monitoring the situation, though we are still coordinating on the next steps. I have also coordinated with the Regional Police (Polda),” he said.

Suparsa has urged residents to increase vigilance and protect their homes and property. He did not recommend organised group patrols (ronda) due to fears that unattended houses might become targets for theft.

He expressed hope that the police will soon uncover the identity of the drone pilots and the motive behind their activities.

“I am awaiting direction from the police, as they hold the authority. We in the village are only here to take precautions,” he concluded.
