Myanmar's strongwomen lifter clinch golds

By Christina S.A. Tumelap

JAKARTA (JP): Myanmar's women lifted the bulk of the gold
yesterday as two of its female competitors wrested titles, with
one of them breaking the SEA Games record for her snatch, clean
and jerk and total lifts.

Cho Cho Win in the 76 kg category and Aye Aye Aung in the 83
kg class were crowned champions after each saw off dangerous
rivals from Thailand and Indonesia.

Aung lifted 100.0 kg in the snatch, 135.0 kg in the clean
and jerk and 235.0 kg in total, to break the previous SEA Games
records set by compatriot Aye Mon Khin in Chiang Mai with 100.0
kg in the snatch 117.5 kg in the clean and jerk and 217.5 kg
in total.

"It's my first SEA Games, first gold and first records. I feel
very happy because I have carried out the task demanded by my
country," Aung told The Jakarta Post.

Thailand's Nawwarat Vissuttipat was placed second with 95.0 kg
in the snatch, 125.0 kg in the clean and jerk and 220.0 kg in
total.

The other champion, Cho Win, said she was surprised that
she got a gold.

"I was not expecting it. I thought Thailand's Wasana would
get the gold because in Chiang Mai she defeated a friend of
mine who is stronger than me," Win told the Post. Win was also
making her Games debut and it was her first gold.

Win defeated Thailand's Wasana Putcharkarn, who lifted a total
of 210.0 kg and Indonesia's Mila Karmila, who lifted 185.0 kg.

In the men's 91 kg and 99 kg categories, Thailand's Aran
Boonlue and Therdkhiat Puekkhasem were crowned winners.

Boonlue lifted 140.0 kg in the snatch, 180.0 kg in the clean
and jerk and 320.0 kg in total. Compatriot Anuchit came second
with a total lift of 305.0 kg, followed by the Philippines'
Roberto Colonia who lifted 305.0 kg in total.

Puekkhasem, who lifted 140.0 kg in the snatch, 180.0 kg in the
clean and jerk and 320.0 kg in total, left Indonesia's Junaidi in
second place with total score of 305.0 kg, followed by Myanmar's
Nay Tun who lifted 287.5 kg in total.

Commenting on Indonesia's loss yesterday, coach Hari Wibowo
said that his team was happy enough to get one silver from
Junaidi and one bronze from Karmila, as the lifters were still
inexperienced.
