BANGKOK (AFP): Myanmar has approved Italian-Thai Development as its lead advisor in developing an industrial estate at the port of Tavoy in southern Myanmar, the company president said yesterday.
"We recently signed a memorandum of understanding to develop a deep-sea port facility in Tavoy and the Burmese government has also given approval for Italian-Thai to be a core advisor to develop its industrial estate at Tavoy," said Premchai Karnnasuta.
The industrial estate will cover over 1,000 rai (400 acres, 160 hectares) and will be located some 100 kilometers (60 miles) from the Thai border. Italian-Thai is currently building a road to link the industrial estate with Thailand, he said.
