Myanmarese FM visits Malaysia
KUALA LUMPUR (AFP): Myanmar's Foreign Minister U Ohn Gyaw arrived here yesterday at the start of a three-day visit aimed at bolstering bilateral political and economic ties, officials said.
Ohn Gyaw will hold talks with his counterpart Abdullah Ahmad Badawi and environment minister Law Hieng Ding today.
He will also hold follow-up discussions with primary industries minister Lim Keng Yaik, who three weeks ago led a mission seeking better trade ties with Myanmar.
The Myanmarese military regime has been shunned by western nations for alleged human rights violations.
Ohn Gyaw, heading a four-member official delegation, will also attend briefings by the Economic Planning Unit in Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad's department and the Palm Oil Research Institute of Malaysia, officials said.
