Myanmar Preserves 6,105 Century-Old Buildings

The Myanmar government is preserving 6,105 buildings that are more than 100 years old by designating them as heritage sites, including 153 buildings in the Yangon Region, state-owned newspaper The Global New Light of Myanmar reported on Tuesday (4/8). This figure has increased from the 5,708 such heritage buildings recorded across Myanmar in 2020, according to the Department of Archaeology and National Museum under Myanmar’s Ministry of Hotels, Tourism and Culture. The department also stated that a plaque installation ceremony was held on 28 July at Kanbawza Yeiktha (Chin Tsong Palace) and the Bogyoke Aung San Museum in the Yangon Region to officially designate both buildings as heritage sites. As part of the preservation efforts, the department carries out necessary maintenance work on these historic buildings every year.
