Myanmar leader to visit Thailand

BANGKOK (AFP): Myanmar junta leader Senior General Than Shwe
will visit Thailand next month for talks with Thai Prime Minister
Chuan Leekpai, a Thai official said on Monday.

Than Shwe, accompanied by Myanmar Foreign Minister Win Aung,
will discuss closer cooperation on the suppression of the drug
trade and border problems, including recent naval clashes in the
Andaman Sea.

"Although there is no plan for an agreement to be signed
during this meeting we hope to establish what we will do next to
solve these kinds of problems," the official said.

Two Thai navy officers were killed while rescuing a Thai
trawler from an attack by an armed vessel carrying no national
flag in December last year.
