YANGON (DPA): Myanmar has started exporting locally produced
barbed wire-making machines to Indonesia, news reports said on
Sunday.
State Peace and Development Council Second Secretary Lt. Gen.
Tin Oo on Saturday presided over a ceremony marking the first
shipment of two such machines made by the Luthit Factory, said
the New Light of Myanmar newspaper.
Tin Oo said he took pride in the export of the barbed wire
machines by Luthit Company, which is owned by Myanmar
entrepreneur Yan Aung.
Myanmar has been run by a military junta since a brutal
crackdown on prodemocracy demonstrators in September 1988. It was
unclear from government-run news reports what the local market
was for barbed wire, a product usually associated with prisons
and other forms of security measures.
