Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Culture (Kemenko PMK) continues to socialise the One Quality Hour with Family (Satu Jam-Ku) movement to reduce children’s gadget playtime or screen time in order to build family quality.

Deputy for Coordinating Family Quality and Population Improvement at Kemenko PMK, Woro Srihastuti Sulistyaningrum, stated that in an era where everything is digitally connected, limiting children’s gadget use certainly presents a particular challenge. Therefore, children’s mental health needs to be continuously maintained.

“Children may experience tantrums, anger, or frustration due to restrictions. Therefore, strengthening the family’s role is very important. The family must be able to accompany the child, especially during restrictions. Thus, positive activities need to be created that strengthen relationships among family members. It is this bonding that must be built,” she said in Jakarta on Wednesday.

“If gadget use is restricted but the environment does not support activities, then that is not a solution. Therefore, cross-sector collaboration is needed, not only from ministries handling women’s and children’s protection, but also from other parties. For example, city development with adequate play spaces. That is not the responsibility of just one ministry; everyone must collaborate,” she explained.

Woro added that the Satu Jam-Ku movement encourages all parties to work together to protect children from the negative impacts of the digital era.

Regarding the implementation of the Satu Jam-Ku movement in the regions, she continued, the form of activities will be adjusted to the characteristics of each region, considering that every region has its own unique features and programmes.

“We are not starting from zero, but optimising what already exists. If a region already has a family programme, that programme can be strengthened through this movement. The same applies to other programmes like the healthy living community movement, which can be integrated with family activities,” Woro stated.
