MPR Speaker Ahmad Muzani inspected the site of a land movement disaster in Padasari Village, Tegal, Central Java. Muzani confirmed he would report the situation to President Prabowo Subianto.

“Our visit is to provide support and encouragement. The input from the field will be taken back to inform policy decisions,” Muzani said after conducting the inspection on Monday (16/2/2026).

“I will personally report to the President about this visit, so that the President can instruct his ministers to act swiftly in providing further assistance,” he continued.

Muzani said the disaster-affected area is no longer suitable for habitation. He therefore emphasised that the construction of temporary shelters (huntara) and permanent relocation must be prioritised.

Muzani said the regional government had prepared 12 hectares of land for temporary housing. However, only 4.8 hectares were deemed safe for use.

“Of the 12 hectares proposed by the regional government using village land, only 4.8 hectares have been recommended and considered suitable for temporary shelters. The remainder has not been recommended,” Muzani said.

“Alternative locations will be sought for the rest, and assessments are currently underway. If they are deemed suitable, they will also be used as temporary shelter sites,” he added.

The land movement began at the location on Monday (2/2). The phenomenon was caused by heavy rainfall that had been falling for several days prior.

M Wisnu Imam, head of the Disaster Response Task Force at the Tegal Regency Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), explained that 104 houses were damaged as a result of the disaster.

A total of 150 households, comprising 470 individuals, were affected. The impacted settlements in Padasari Village are located across RW 02, RT 6, 7, 8, 9 in RW 03; RT 12, 13, 14, and 15 in RW 04; RT 10, 11, 16, 17, and 18; Tigasari hamlet in RW 02, RT 03 and 04; as well as Padareka hamlet in RW 01, RT 1, 2, and 3.

“The provisional count is 104 damaged houses. The incident began on Sunday and the ground continued to shift, becoming severe by Monday,” said M Wisnu Imam.
