Muzani to Attend Khamenei's Funeral as Presidential Envoy
People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) Speaker Ahmad Muzani has spoken about his plan to attend the funeral of Iran’s former supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Muzani stressed that he is attending as an official envoy of Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, representing the country.
Initially, Muzani explained that he was contacted directly by Foreign Minister Sugiono regarding the plan to attend Ali Khamenei’s funeral. “Oh yes, I was indeed contacted by the Foreign Minister, that the President asked us to represent the people and nation of Indonesia to attend the funeral ceremony of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei upon his passing,” Muzani told reporters at the Parliament Complex in Senayan, Central Jakarta, on Wednesday, 8 July 2026.
Muzani then expressed his deep condolences on the passing of Ali Khamenei. “On behalf of the Indonesian nation, people, and government, I express our deepest condolences,” he said. He further explained that President Prabowo Subianto had asked him and Foreign Minister Sugiono to represent the country at Ali Khamenei’s funeral. He stated that his position at the funeral was as a presidential envoy.
“So on that day, the President asked me and the Foreign Minister to attend the event. And God willing, we will depart soon. The departure is being arranged by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Perhaps tomorrow night, but everything will be coordinated by the Foreign Minister later,” he revealed. “I was asked to depart representing the Indonesian nation at that time to attend the funeral ceremony of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Yes, as an envoy of the President,” Muzani concluded.
