Muzani Reveals Try Sutrisno's Final Wish: Constitutional Amendment
Jakarta – MPR (People’s Consultative Assembly) Chairman Ahmad Muzani has disclosed the wish of the late 6th Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia, Try Sutrisno, before his passing. According to Muzani, the deceased Try Sutrisno desired a fifth amendment to the 1945 Constitution.
Muzani made this statement after paying respects and leading prayers for the late Try Sutrisno at the Sunda Kelapa Grand Mosque in Central Jakarta on Monday, 2 March 2026.
“Beyond that, he once spoke to us during last year’s Eid celebrations. He wanted, before he passed away, for there to be a fifth amendment to the 1945 Constitution,” Muzani told journalists.
“And he wished for this to be carried out before he departed this life. I took careful note of this message and mandate from him to us as leaders of the MPR at that time,” he added.
The MPR, according to Muzani, is making efforts to realise Try Sutrisno’s wish. Currently, the MPR leadership is also conducting various studies.
He stated that Try Sutrisno wished for a constitutional amendment with the objective of preserving the unity of the Indonesian nation.
“He wanted the amendment to be carried out to preserve unity, to maintain togetherness, and to ensure Indonesia’s continued progress and wellbeing in the future,” Muzani explained.
The 6th Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia, Retired General Try Sutrisno, passed away at RSPAD Gatot Subroto Hospital in Jakarta on Monday, 2 March 2026 at approximately 06:58 Western Indonesia Time.
“That is correct (Former Vice President Try Sutrisno has passed away),” said Retired Lieutenant General of the TNI (Indonesian Military) Albertus Budi Sulistya, former head of RSPAD, when contacted on Monday, 2 March 2026.
Plans are underway for the late Try Sutrisno’s remains to be transported to a funeral home at Purwakarta Street Number 6, Menteng, Central Jakarta.
