Muzani Reveals Talks with Iranian Parliament Speaker, Hopes for End to War

MPR RI Chairman Ahmad Muzani has shared details of his meeting with Iranian Parliament Speaker and chief negotiator Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, during which he expressed hope that the war in the Middle East would soon end. “We conveyed to Dr Mohammad Ghalibaf warm greetings from all the people and nation of Indonesia and the Government of the Republic of Indonesia. We expressed the deep condolences of the people and nation of Indonesia on the passing of a leader deeply loved by the Iranian people, and we offered our sympathies,” Muzani said following a national gathering with the Supreme Court in Jakarta on Tuesday (14/7/2026). Muzani stated that Indonesia mourns the loss of Ali Khamenei and prayed for Iran’s fortitude. “We feel how the Iranian people are saddened by the loss of their beloved leader. Therefore, the people and nation of Indonesia pray that the Iranian people may remain steadfast in facing this calamity. We also said that the Indonesian nation is a nation that deeply loves peace,” he revealed. Muzani expressed confidence that the Iranian government will take the best possible solution regarding the current state of war, while reiterating his hope that the conflict in the Middle East can be halted. “Even under very difficult conditions, we still hope that efforts to resolve this tension and war can find a solution,” Muzani said. “We trust His Excellency Mohammad Ghalibaf to take action using his thoughts, words, deeds, and signature to stop the war. That is the message from all the people and nation of Indonesia,” he added. The Indonesian delegation departed for Iran in the early hours of Friday (10/7) to pay their final respects and offer condolences on the passing of Ayatollah Sayyid Ali Khamenei. The delegation’s departure was a direct assignment from President Prabowo Subianto. The Indonesian delegation comprised MPR Chairman Ahmad Muzani, Foreign Minister Sugiono, General Chairman of the Nahdlatul Ulama Executive Board KH Yahya Cholil Staquf, Chairman of the Muhammadiyah Central Board Prof Dr Syafiq A Mughni, and Director General for Asia Pacific and Africa at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Santo Darmosumarto.
