Muzani Reveals Contents of Prabowo's Meeting with Ulama and Leaders of Islamic Mass Organisations

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The Chairman of the Indonesian People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR), Ahmad Muzani, disclosed the contents of a meeting between President Prabowo Subianto and ulama, kiai, habaib, leaders of pesantren, and leaders of Islamic mass organisations (ormas) at the Istana in Jakarta on Thursday, 5 March 2026. Muzani said the meeting, which lasted more than three hours, served as a silaturahmi and a forum for dialogue to understand and listen to views on various issues. ‘This meeting is intended for mutual understanding and listening to developments in geopolitical and geo-economic information that have occurred recently,’ Muzani said after the gathering on Thursday night. According to Muzani, the kiai, ulama, and other Muslim figures also understood the steps taken by President Prabowo as a path that is good and right. ‘The ulama and kiai understand this as an attitude by the President on a path that is good and correct,’ he said. He added that he hopes all parties will continue to support and pray for Prabowo’s steps to proceed smoothly. Furthermore, Muzani said Prabowo, as Head of State, remains open to receiving input from various quarters. He hopes this silaturahmi can be held regularly. ‘And the President continues to open himself to receiving input and views from a broad range of groups, including ulama and kiai,’ Muzani said. Among those present were Anwar Iskandar, the Chairperson of MUI; Haedar Nashir, the Chairperson of PP Muhammadiyah; Miftachul Akhyar, Rais Aam of PBNU. Also present was Yahya Zainul Ma’arif, the head of Ponpes Al-Bahjah in Cirebon, known as Buya Yahya, along with preacher Muhammad Subki Al-Bughury and Mamah Dedeh. Upon arriving at the venue, the MUI chairman said he had come to the Istana to attend an invitation from President Prabowo. ‘We will have an iftar together. Later, all general chairs of Islamic mass organisations, along with mubalighs, and the heads of pesantren; the pesantren with large networks,’ he said on Thursday.
