Muzani Opens Cattle Contest in Wonosobo: Breeders Delighted as Sign of Stirring Economy
Chairman of the MPR RI, Ahmad Muzani, opened the APPSI Cattle Contest in Wonosobo, Central Java. In his speech, Muzani highlighted the importance of the role of cattle breeders ahead of Eid al-Adha, which serves as the peak moment for the livestock sector.
“Eid al-Adha is the jackpot for cattle breeders, the celebration for cattle breeders,” said Muzani at the opening of the MPR RI Chairman’s Cup APPSI Cattle Contest in Wonosobo on Saturday (25/4/2026).
Muzani stated that the cattle contest held ahead of Eid al-Adha is not merely a competition, but a forum to bring together breeders from various regions. According to him, such forums are important for sharing experiences, from fattening techniques to handling livestock diseases.
“This is an arena to bring breeders together with one another, exchanging information on how to increase cattle weight and overcome diseases,” he said.
He added that improving breeder productivity will have a direct impact on the economy. Muzani assessed that the welfare of breeders serves as an indicator of the movement in the community’s economy.
“If breeders are delighted and their income is good, it is a sign that the economy is moving and the community’s purchasing power is strong,” he stated.
In addition, Muzani also highlighted the potential of Wonosobo as a region for developing livestock, particularly dairy cattle. He mentioned that the national milk demand is still not fully met, thus leaving a wide-open market opportunity.
“Our milk production is only around 23-25 percent of the national requirement. That means there is still about 75 percent of the opportunity that we can fill,” he explained.
According to Muzani, Wonosobo’s cool geographical conditions are deemed suitable for developing dairy cattle. He hopes that the region can become one of the national milk production centres in the future.
On that occasion, Muzani also touched on the impact of the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) programme, which is seen as increasing demand for food products, including vegetables and milk. He stated that the programme provides positive effects for farmers and breeders.
This APPSI cattle contest also serves as a direct transaction venue between breeders and buyers. Muzani said that the exhibited cattle can be directly bid on at the location in an open manner.
“This also brings breeders together with buyers. Cattle can be directly bid on fairly,” he said.
The event was also attended by the Governor of Central Java, Muhammad Lutfi, and Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Sudaryono. The government, through the Ministry of Agriculture, also provided support in the form of prizes of five cattle weighing more than one tonne for the contest winners.
Muzani hopes that activities like this can be held routinely in various regions to encourage the advancement of the national livestock sector.
