Gerindra Party Honorary Board Chairman Ahmad Muzani has responded to NasDem Chairman Surya Paloh’s indication that he is still deliberating whether to support President Prabowo Subianto for two terms in office. Muzani said it is simply not yet time to nominate anyone as president.

“I think it is indeed not yet time to nominate a president from any single political party or coalition party, because the presidential nomination will only take place in 2029, perhaps sometime before that,” Muzani said in West Jakarta on Sunday (22/2/2026).

Muzani expressed respect for Surya Paloh’s stance. However, he added that if any party has already declared support for Prabowo, he is grateful.

“For us, if a political party has not yet decided on a presidential nomination, that is something we respect — it is perfectly normal, and we must respect the internal affairs of other parties,” he said.

“But conversely, if a political party has already decided on its presidential candidate and, for instance, supports Pak Prabowo’s return in 2029, we are of course grateful,” he added.

Muzani went on to say that Gerindra’s position was determined at its congress, which resolved to back Prabowo again in 2029. As such, the party would continue to champion this cause.

“Our obligation as cadres is to keep rallying behind this and to ensure that the current government runs well, effectively, and that the people feel the benefits through to 2029,” he said.

Previously, Surya Paloh had responded to the discourse around two-term support for President Prabowo Subianto. Paloh said NasDem was still considering the matter.

“We are currently thinking about that — after all, we are part of the coalition,” Surya Paloh said at NasDem Tower in Menteng, Central Jakarta, on Saturday (21/2).

Regarding the proposal for a permanent coalition, Paloh said there was no issue with considering it. He then emphasised the importance of progress in national life.

“A permanent coalition is fine to consider. There is no problem with it, but we have not yet decided. Considering it is a good thing. Once again, the most essential thing — what is our great goal? The answer is simple: our progress as a nation and a state. Who is involved? All of us,” Paloh said.
