Muzani: Cooperatives Bring Democracy to Economic Life
Jakarta, VIVA – Speaker of the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR RI) Ahmad Muzani has stated that cooperatives are one of the means through which the government seeks to bring democracy into economic life.
Muzani made the remarks during the MPR RI Annual Session and the Joint Session of the House of Representatives (DPR) and the Regional Representatives Council (DPD) at the Parliamentary Complex in Senayan, Central Jakarta, on Friday, 14 August 2026.
“Cooperatives are one of the means to bring democracy into economic life,” Muzani said.
Muzani assessed that if cooperatives are managed soundly and professionally, they will strengthen the bargaining position of farmers and make it easier for fishermen to access markets.
“Micro-enterprises can grow, the distribution of basic necessities can be shortened, and the added economic value can be enjoyed by the public,” he said.
He stated that cooperatives are not merely business entities. The success of cooperatives can be measured by the growth of more productive economic activity.
“Cooperatives are not merely business entities. Cooperatives are a spirit of moving forward together. Therefore, the success of cooperatives is measured by the growth of productive economic activity, the increase in members’ incomes, strong governance, and the growing self-reliance of the community,” Muzani concluded.
