Mustika bus crashes into a tree on Yogyakarta's South Ring Road after avoiding a motorcycle
A Mustika bus was involved in a single-vehicle crash on the South Ring Road in Yogyakarta this morning, east of the Dongkelan junction, Sewon, Bantul. The bus struck a tree and a streetlight after swerving to avoid a motorcycle that suddenly changed lanes.
‘Yes, there was a crash at around 09:15 WIB on the South Ring Road at Dongkelan, in front of the Yogyakarta High Religious Court; there were no fatalities in the incident,’ Bantul Police Public Relations Head Iptu Rita Hidayanto told reporters on Saturday (7 March 2026).
Rita said the accident began when the bus travelled from east to west along the South Ring Road. The bus was driven by SS (59), a resident of Danurejo, Mertoyudan, Magelang. At the time the bus carried a conductor identified as R (32) and a crew member SH (37), both Magelang residents.
‘The bus was heading from east to west. When it reached the accident site there was a motorcyclist of unknown identity moving from the slow lane to the fast lane,’ she said.
According to her, the motorcyclist suddenly slowed its speed in the middle of the road. The bus driver, startled, swerved to the right to avoid a collision.
‘Because the distance was short, the bus driver swung the steering wheel to the right, resulting in it hitting a tree and also a streetlight,’ she added.
As a result, the front of the bus was damaged. The windscreen shattered and the front lower section dented.
‘Estimated material loss around Rp 5 million,’ Rita said.
After the incident the bus was secured by authorities and transported to Sewon Police Station for further handling. Police are also tracing the whereabouts of the motorcyclist believed to have triggered the accident.
