JAKARTA - The Minister of Public Works (PU), Dody Hanggodo, inspected the construction of the Sekolah Rakyat (SR) in Dharmasraya Regency, West Sumatra, on Wednesday (6/5/2026), to ensure the project is progressing according to target and can be used for the new academic year in July 2026.

Dody stated that the construction progress of the Sekolah Rakyat in Dharmasraya is currently around 9 percent. Nevertheless, the government is optimistic that the project can be completed on schedule.

Dody emphasised that the construction of the Sekolah Rakyat in Dharmasraya is being accelerated with a target of at least 2 percent daily progress to ensure timely completion.

“So for the Sekolah Rakyat in Dharmasraya, we are pushing it. Hopefully, we can achieve at least 2 percent per day. If, for example, we can’t reach 2 percent in a day due to rain or other factors, I ask for it to be caught up the next day. So, if today we fall short by half a percent, then tomorrow it must be 2.5 percent,” he said.

“The coordination is good. The contractor is also moving quickly. Everyone is working together to ensure daily progress runs smoothly, including material readiness,” he added.

The Sekolah Rakyat is designed as an integrated educational facility from primary school (SD), junior high school (SMP), to senior high school (SMA) levels. The facilities prepared include dormitories, dining areas, places of worship, sports facilities, a football field, and an athletics track.

In addition, all students’ educational needs, such as uniforms and books, are covered by the government.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Governor of West Sumatra, Vasco Ruseimy, stated that the West Sumatra Provincial Government fully supports the acceleration of the Sekolah Rakyat construction as an effort to improve access to education for underprivileged communities.

“The West Sumatra Provincial Government targets the construction of an additional 7 Sekolah Rakyat next year with an average area of 8-10 hectares,” said Vasco.
