Kuala Lumpur (ANTARA) - Muslims in Malaysia will celebrate Eid al-Adha 1447 Hijriah on May 27, 2026, according to Acting Assistant Secretary of the Conference of Rulers, Muhammad Affendi Jalaludin.

In a statement broadcast on local Malaysian television Sunday night, Affendi also stated that the date of 1 Zulhijjah 1447 Hijriah will fall on Monday (May 18, 2026).

“In accordance with the command of His Majesty the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, and with the approval of His Majesty the Rulers, I, on behalf of the Keeper of the Seals of the Rulers, hereby declare that the date of 1 Zulhijjah 1447 Hijriah falls on May 18, 2026,” said Affendi.

“Therefore, Eid al-Adha, which falls on the 10th of Zulhijjah, for all Muslim countries in Malaysia is set for Wednesday, May 27, 2026,” he said.

The date of Eid al-Adha celebrations in Malaysia is the same as that determined by the Indonesian government.

The Indonesian government, through the Ministry of Religious Affairs (Kemenag), announced that 1 Zulhijjah 1447 Hijriah/2026 AD falls on Monday, May 18, 2026, so Eid al-Adha falls on Wednesday, May 27, 2026.

“Based on the results of hisab and reports of lunar sightings, it was agreed that 1 Zulhijjah 1447 Hijriah falls on Monday, May 18, 2026, thus Eid al-Adha falls on Wednesday, May 27, 2026,” said Religious Affairs Minister Nasaruddin Umar when delivering the results of the Isbat session in Jakarta, Sunday.

The decision was obtained after monitoring (rukyatul) the new moon from 88 different locations in Indonesia.

From the monitoring results, the crescent moon has exceeded the criteria set by the Ministers of Religious Affairs of Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore (MABIMS) regarding the new Hijri month, which requires a lunar height of 3 degrees and an elongation of 6.4 degrees.
